Poured from a 12 oz can into a tulip glass. Color is a deep reddish amber to brown with a half finger of khaki head with small bubbles. The aroma is of sweet caramelly grain and faint hints of vanilla, and maybe a little chocolate ice cream. After the first sip I taste pumpernickel or rye bread with a vanilla sweetness, and a crusty bread finish. After several tastes I get a faint mocha flavor and woodiness that reminds me of a good bourbon. As it warms up the chocolate notes become more obvious. It is pleasantly bitter at then end. The body of the beer is velvety and smooth. A really solid brown ale worth checking out.
