Our Blowing Rock Oktoberfest is the ideal Märzen-style, Bavarian lager. It pours with brilliant, golden copper color and the malty aroma evokes notes of breaded caramel. A traditional hop profile delivers a malt-forward, smooth finish to this well-balanced seasonal brew.

Picked up a single on 9-5-24 from the Energy Mart cooler on Long Shoals/I-26 as part of a mixed six pack for $12.99. Canned 8-23-24; consumed 11-7-24. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured amber with a nice white head.
Nose has light notes of toasted malts and a touch of honey.
Taste follows the nose as the light toasted malt base gives a touch of caramel. Hopping brings an edge and helps balance this out.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty refreshing.
Overall, a decent beer. I will seek out a fresh can next summer/fall and re-evaluate given this is the 2nd beer of the day.

Mostly clear burnt amber with a massively tall but airy khaki foam.
Taste is a little sharp, metallic and hoppy even. Grassy corn and grape overlay some mild toasted brown malt via a slick medium-light body that finishes dry.

Poured from 12 oz can into pint glass. A thin white head falls quickly with no lacing. Color is clear amber with moderate streaming carbonation. Aroma of bread dough and floral hops. Mouthfeel is light to medium with a damp finish. Flavor of toasted malt, raisin, figs, citrus hops. Overall: good, but a little thin and watery.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium to dark golden copper in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate medium golden yellow + bronze colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense sudsy foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a couple of small patches of medium thick film surrounded by a large patch of slightly mottled thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted + bready + cereal grain + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel + grainy sweetness. Light aromas of earthy hops and lager yeast.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of toasted + bready + cereal grain + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel + grainy sweetness as well as light amount of light fruit (apple + pear). That is followed by light flavors of lager yeast. Finally there is a light flavor of earthy hops which fade away relatively quickly.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with a relatively clean finish.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pretty decent balance between the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness from the hops while still having a malt dominant flavor. Kind of a basic Oktoberfest but still enjoyable.

Pours a dark amber color with a modest head. Malt and rye aroma. Full bodied beer supported by a nice malt backbone. Everything you want out of the Oktoberfest style, including a toasted bread note on the finish.

Much like the big box retailers, the beer industry has caught on that they must release their seasonal beers at least 2 seasons before the actual season for that beer. Pumpkin / Fall / Oktoberfest beers have been 0n the shelves since late July around here (Thank you Boston Beer Co. for that one). As a personal rule... continue reading https://agrainoftruthblog.wordpress.com/2016/10/14/blowing-rock-brewing-co-oktoberfest-lager/

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. No freshness date.
A- Pours a medium reddish amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a spiral of sheer wispy surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.
S- Toasty malt that's pretty sweet-smelling. Bready, grainy.
T- Somewhat sweet at first with more toasty malt character leading to a dry finish. Very easy to drink as it's so clean and quite refreshing.
M- Semi-crisp and clean with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.
O- I'm not a fan of Oktoberfests as they can be too sweet but this one has a nice dryness to complement the biscuity sweetness of the malt. Definitely one of the better of the style that I've had.
