This unique beer commemorates the opening of Big Al Brewing in August, 2008. A fractionally blended sour brown ale, this one of a kind beer has been growing with Big Al Brewing since day one. We've blended our favorite batches of beer with our house sour culture and aged the mixture for over 7 years in stainless steel.

375ml bottle served in a WABL sampler glass. I don't find a bottled on or best by date, but I don't particularly expect one in this case (especially with August 2008 all over it).
Pours a pretty ruby amber with a small head that disappears almost immediately. A small amount of very fine carbonation. Looks a little flat. Smell is tart and lovely. Sweet tarts, fruit, some kind of green vegetation aroma. Smells nice.
Taste is tart through and through, with a thin shell of sweetness that becomes clearer in the aftertaste. A surprising bitterness, something like a combination of mostly fruit skins and a little pine. Sweetness is clearly some kind of fruity, but I'm having trouble nailing it down.
Mouthfeel is thick and soft with a dry, almost cottonmouth feeling. Overall, nice beer.

Had a bottle at the brewery, August 21, 2016.
I first visited Big Al's in August 2008 with a group of friends. We were all 21 years old, and I'd already been drinking craft beer since I was 17. We purchased a growler to go and then naively tried to drink it on premise in violation of WA law, and were asked to leave by Alejandro himself. The space that Big Al's occupies used to be Pacific Rim Brewing Company, and I believe they went out of business late 2007/earlier in 2008. I didn't enjoy any of the beers I sampled early on at Big Al's, but this Time Capsule was easily one of the best sour beers I've had this year. Reminded me of Rodenbach Grand Cru without the barrel character. The only thing that would've made me enjoy it more is if it was aged in foudres.
