A 'Flavour-Infused' golden ale brewed for GABS festival in Melbourne, May 2014. Description says it is made with juniper berries, orange zest, orange juice, bitters and cucumber. Tried at the festival on tap.
Pours a golden amber colour, clear with a thin rim of foam, cream-coloured and a bit whispy. Bit clear and listless, but OK.
Smells very clearly of gin. Or juniper, rather. Lots of berry that leans a little into black pepper territory. Not much else though.
Taste is slightly grainy and sweet upfront before developing that juniper character mid-palate with a touch of black pepper again and a slight bitter edge. Bit boozey as well, but mostly uninteresting. Lacking in depth.
Body is thin, doesn't have a lot of that boozey heat, it's mostly just there in flavour.
Yeah, has a slight gin edge. Really quite thin and empty otherwise. Disappointing; maybe just trying a bit too much.
