Trinity Brewing Company "Microbe! Of The Week"
12.7 fl. oz. brown glass bottle seemingly without production codes or freshness dating
$6.99 @ The Beer Store, Hudson, NY
Notes via stream of consciousness: I was a little fooled by this beer. Looking at the front label it says "Pediococcus Golden Sour" but then on the side it states that Brettanomyces was also used. That's OK, I love Brett but I was hoping to see what just pediococcus would do. It's poured a hazy golden body with a bit of an orange sheen beneath a short head of white that's already disappeared. That's common with sour beers and to be expected. The aroma is funky and fruity with notes of sharp apple, straw, some barnyard, leather, and mineralish earthiness. The flavor is quite tart but not puckeringly sour, and the malt maintains a presence and delivers some balancing sweetness. The Brett character and fruitiness remain but they're not as fully flavored as the aroma might lead you to expect. As usual there's not that much bitterness but it still finishes dry with acidity, and that acidity also helps to liven the mouthfeel. It's light bodied, spritzy, and gently zesty with acidity. Overall it's quite an interesting and enjoyable sour. Worth trying!

12.7 oz. Bottle
Poured into a Yazoo glass a pretty nice hazy dark golden yellow/orange color, pretty nice carbonation, with a small/quick/fizzy off-white head, which leaves minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, funky, tart, citrusy (lemon, tangerine), kinda wheaty. The taste is malty, yeasty, with some nice funkyness, tart, citrusy (lemon, tangerine), some wheat. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty nicely. Overall, kinda surprised me, pretty nice brew.
