$ 15.09 (Including discount and shipping)/12.7 oz capped bottle ($ 1.188/oz). From Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Received 8/31/20. Reviewed 9/18/20.
On label “Year brewed 18”. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees (per bottle instructions) in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 58 degrees.
Appearance – 3.
First pour – Deep amber (SRM 15), clear.
Body – Ruby brown (SRM 24), opaque. When held to direct light, translucent with ruby. Refermented in bottle so sediment present.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.7 cm, aggressive center pour), medium tan, high density, begins fizzy, short retention, diminishing to a three mm crown and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Malt and brown sugar, ephemeral chocolate, with a weakly sour after-aroma. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.75 – A bit sweet with no distinct flavor, maybe slightly malty. No hops, no yeast. No alcohol (11.2 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma, but a gentle gastric warming occurs. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, a bit sticky, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation 3.5. Well, what a non-descript brew, especially for the price point. Not really much flavor. Too bad the flavor doesn’t support the aroma. The label, on the other hand, is crammed with information.
