Dark, amber-orange body, clear; dense and lively carbonation; nice looking head, one-finger plus thick, fairly dense and persistent; speckles of foam with a rogue finger or two of suds etch the glass. Barely noticeable smell; very light malt with a trace of hop presence. Fine malt-forward taste; fairly heavy sweetness; caramel; excellent hop bitterness and spiciness offsetting the malt base; thyme and pepper; slowly creeping booziness develops into a dominant flavor near the finish. Heavy body; dense and smooth; general alcohol warmth blankets it all.
Overall, this is a respectable barleywine. Nothing special sets this one apart from other similar barleywines. I would consider this worth a revisit but wouldn't deem it as a 'must have' beer.
