16 oz can into a tulip
Tannish-brown ale, sudsy head on a gentle pour.
Malty-sweet bouquet, touch of citrus pith and honey.
Malt rye at the front of the palate, with plenty of citrusy hops to balance. Bready, earthy sweetness carries to a long finish, as bitter-sweet residuals linger.
Unique ipa, in between an amber and IPA.

Pint at Zeek's Pizza / Fountain Brewing in Bellingham.
Pours clear golden, small head, tons of carbonation. Head stabilizes around two mm thick. Smell is grain and leaves, Pine needles and lemon rind.
Taste is more clearly rye than the aroma, but still not screaming. Bitter with a little honeysuckle.
Mouthfeel is light, crisp, clean. Overall...it's good, just rather unexciting.

Not sure if it’s the rye or something else, but the nuances to this beer are really fascinating, especially as it warms. The look and feel are on point but somewhat un-noteworthy. (Though the coloring d the beer was really appealing.) Initially I felt the same about the nose while the taste profile presented as unique right away. But after a little time in the glass the nose and tongue really come into beautiful harmony with distinct notes of pine, herbs, peppercorn, citrus, peach skin, and bright lemongrass. Very dank and dry finish. Doesn’t necessarily translate into high grades in the (too) broad category of American IPAs. But I really appreciate the unique qualities and subtle nuance this beer brings.
Only my second exposure to Lost Abbey so I look forward to more in the future.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a one finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of pale malt, dank and tropical hops, mixed, over-ripe tropical fruit, a little orange, grapefruit and dankness. Flavor is pale malt, tropical and dank hops, vague citrus, mixed tropical fruit, hints of catty dankness and pine, and a touch of rye flavor and tartness. Medium bodied with a light to moderate creaminess. I haven't seen Lost Abbey around the Northwest for a while, and had to try a rare rye IPA. The flavor is a bit busy, hitting West Coast pine and citrus, but with some New Zealand style fruit hop character too. The rye is not strong, but adds a nice note to the overall flavor. I'm not a huge fan of dominant fruit hops, but I liked this hop bill anyway. The only downside is that the bitterness is just moderate and at the cusp of what I hope for in an IPA. The rye and pleasant herbal hop flavors brought it home anyway. Glad to see Lost Abbey again. They were one of my introductions to big stouts and blended ales decades ago. I'll enjoy revisiting them.

Pours a fairly clear light amber with fine head.
Smell is fruity and spicy with notes of pine, citrus,, rye, peach and green tea.
Taste is crisp, fruity and spicy with a solid bitterness. Notes of pine, citrus and peach with some peppery hints. Very easy to drink.
Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation.
Overall, a very nice IPA from an unexpected brewery.

Slight haze on the amber brew with plenty of foam in the Bacchus tumbler. Label says this "blurs the line between hazy and clear IPAs." It's certainly fruity and juicy, but not acidic or gunky. I would say it's a distinctly American IPA with a lot of fruit and restrained bitterness.
Aroma of peach and mango. Tastes of green melon, peach, some grain, and a bit of astringent stem. The alleged rye malt adds a bit of spice and maybe some of its own bitterness. Very fruity, but if you say "tropical" I'll agree with you. Quite drinkable and it's a different sort of hoppy concoction that has plenty of charm. Good thing, since I have three more of the 16 oz cans thanks to Larry's Liquors.
