Appearance - 4.0
Poured a creamy head that retained well over a clear, tawny red body.
Smell - 4.0
Smell is very malty-sweet, but also possesses a strong leafy hop aroma. Inviting.
Taste - 3.5
This would be an excellent beer but it suffers from being too heavily hopped. The bitterness would be appropriate in an APA, but not an Irish Red Ale. Otherwise there is little to fault here, biscuity malt, semi sweet with a dry finish.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Low to moderate level of carbonation, feels somewhat creamy in the mouth.
Drinkability - 3.5
Again, it is only the hops that stop this from scoring higher. Sessionable for me, but definitely not for some.
OVERALL - 3.75
This won a silver medal at the WA Beer Show, and I can see why. It is a very tasty beer, far superior from what is being produced by the big WA breweries. Good to see this style being brewed in WA.
