Also known as Komes Porter Baltycki
KOMES PORTER reflects the history of brewing, referring to the 18th century tradition of brewing porters in the Baltic states. At their prime, Baltic porters represented one third of the market, which is the best evidence of their popularity. We offer you a well-balanced, dark, strong beer with a distinct flavour. Slow fermentation at low temperatures in open vats, coupled with long (at least 3 months) maturation have resulted in the beer’s character and complete, complex nature. The Porter’s bouquet matures further in the bottle. Time is on its side.
Bronze Medal at the World Beer Cup 2014.
Gold Medal at the European Beer Star 2013 for best beer in the Baltic Porters category

You're bombarded right away with toasty malty notes, which are pervasive throughout the beer and in just the right amount. The complex flavors are accompanied by a light bread feel with a slight amount of acidity. It's not very sweet, but that's not necessarily a bad thing unless you're seeking out something akin to the founders KBS series. I have no complaints about this beer and it was a fair price. Highly recommend.

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from Total Wine in Greenville, SC 11-5-25 for $5.99. No bottling date, just a lot code; consumed 6-5-26. Cold stored since purchased from the TW warm shelves. Poured at 57 degrees.
Beer poured dark brown with a nice tan head.
Nose has notes of malts that are just beyond toasted, coca-cola, and chocolate.
Taste was roastier than anticipated but i just had a WCIPA. Getting notes of dark chocolate and again the coca-cola vibe. Hopping is generous as it perfectly balances the sweetness out.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with near perfect smoothness.
Overall, this is better than expected, and at a reasonable price.

Jet black color with a low off white head that dissipates quickly to nothing. It appears still.
Aroma is sweet with ripe fruit notes, coffee, anise and dark brown sugar.
Licorice flavor dominated up front, warming alcohol slides in with more sweet treacle and molasses, notes of cooked apples and stone fruit.
Body is a hard medium which "feels" light to carry the rich sweet malt character.
Finish is warmly alcoholic and clean, lingering hints of smoke and mild bitterness.
Big flavor bomb but pretty one dimensional.

Bottle pour - very dark murky brown color with short khaki head leaving minimal lacing. Nose is mildly roasty, taste follows with hints of cocoa, coffee and burnt sugar that linger on the finish.

I had the raspberry variant of this Baltic Porter awhile back and had expected to love it but it was just decent. I was a bigger fan of their RIS but I feel like this one is going to top them both. You really can’t top a well executed example of the style. I wish I knew how old this bottle was but let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Pours an opaque dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy light tan heag that slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is a bit subdued but what’s here is nice. I’m picking up on aromas of dark toast, black cherry, raisin, molasses, burnt sugar, milk chocolate, and light walnut
The volume is turned up in taste, but unfortunately the dark fruit character feels a tad medicinal. This gets better as it warms up. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting cacao nib, black cherry, molasses, burnt caramel, orange zest, brown sugar, red grape, and light leather. The swallow brings notes of black cherry, milk chocolate, raspberry, burnt toast, leather, brown sugar, light tobacco, and walnut
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry and roasfy
While it’s better than the raspberry, I don’t think it’s anything mind blowing

Undecipherable date code; drank 7/29/25 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dark brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small, noisy dark tan head which quickly dissipated; no lacing remained.
Rich chocolate, cream & faint pickle notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Chocolate & cream flavors up front; faint pickle & mild booze heat notes on the finish.
I always get a pickle-y finish on Baltic Porters; when done well, I find it oddly enjoyable along with the darker notes. This is very well done.

500ml bottle - $4.99 at GBX (Greenville Beer Exchange) in Greenville, South Carolina.
Appearance: Pours a black body with a high stack of light khaki foam.
Smell: Roasted barley grains with flourishes of pruneskins, licorice, soot extract and a faint hint of umami.
Taste: Roasted grain - a bit thinnish in terms of overall flavor - not much sweetness. Flash of prune fruitiness, a hint of licorice and a dribble of creosote. A couple drops of soy. And it's a bit boozy, frankly. It's neither smooth nor complex, but a veritable bargain at a cost of half a sawbuck.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: As with their barleywine, I mean, it's not particularly expensive, so I am not about to get overly worked up about it being just so-so.
