The Publican House Ale, our flagship brand, at 4.8% alcohol is a traditional German table beer made exclusively with Wyermann malts and Continental noble hops. Flavorful with a broad general appeal to beer drinkers, this product is in production year round and is available in 1.9 litre growlers as well as 473ml. cans. Our signature ale carries the name of the brewery and pub. The term 'publican' dates back centuries to early England and was the genesis of the local brewery and watering hole for town residents as well as travelers through who could stop and refresh themselves and get to know some of the locals in the 'public house'.

Pub House Ale won Gold at the 2014 Ontario Brewing Awards, Bronze at the 2016 Canadian Brewing Awards and Gold at the 2018 Canadian Brewing Awards.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. No date stamp or lot number. My fourth beer from the Peterborough, Ontario brewery, and for 2025. With Gracie the cat...

Clear dark gold with a modest head. Clean cereal nose. Light body with a little metallic dryness. Great crispness. A decent kolsch.

Tallboy can from the LCBO; packaged Nov 14 2015 and served well-chilled. I enjoyed their Square Nail PA, so did not hesitate to grab this can of "Pub House Ale" while shopping in London last month.

Pours foggy golden-yellow, topped with one centimetre of soapy, white-coloured froth that recedes within the next two minutes. A modest-sized collar and filmy cap remain, along with minimal lacing; nothing to get excited about visually. Light notes of lemon zest, apple skin and apricot on the nose, set upon a backdrop of grainy, crackery pale malts and some grassy hay.

A solid session beer; clean and crisp, somewhere between a blonde ale and a pilsener. Grainy pale malts provide a crackery, doughy-biscuity sweet base for the flavour profile, with subtle, fruity hints of red apple skin and apricot surfacing by mid-sip. The back end is rampant with grassy, mildly floral noble hop bitterness, of the stripe that you'd expect from an imported German pils. This aspect lingers beyond the finish, setting the stage for a mostly-dry aftertaste that compels you to take another sip. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation levels that result in a lively, refreshing mouthfeel.

Final Grade: 3.89, a B+. The Publican House's Pub House Ale might not be the most traditional example of a kölsch, but that sure isn't stopping me from enjoying it. This one makes up for its lack of exciting, novel features by being exceptionally clean-tasting and having universal appeal - you need not be a hardcore BA in order to enjoy this one. While the can I sampled was not particularly fresh, it is still drinking very nicely and I would definitely be interested in trying a fresher sample at some point, either another can from the LCBO or on-tap.

Pale straw yellow, like sunlight through clouds. Bright white finger of head that settles to a thin covering immediately.

Lemon citrus on the nose. White pepper. Faint grain. Subdued.

If anything defines this beer it must be its softness. Soft honey with a slight earthy herbal hops. Citrus nose doesn't come through so much in taste. More herbal and green straw tartness. Beautiful layer of soft rolled light malts in the background. Finishes dry and a bit tart like underripe Apple skin.

Amply carbonated with fine bubbles. Med body and soapy soft on the tongue.

Very nice beer, simple but elegant. Not overly complex flavours but what it does it does very well. Excellent mouthfeel.

This beer is hit or miss... sometimes it’s excellent and sometimes it’s not so much.
Pours a nice gold colour, small head. Metallic and bitter on the nose. Malty, sweet and metallic describes the taste this time. A good, but inconsistent beer in my opinion
