473 mL can from the LCBO; coded 22221 (Aug 9 2022) and served slightly chilled. Some proceeds from the purchase of this beer will be used to help the Peterborough Humane Society build a new facility.
Pours a clear-ish golden yellow colour, sporting half a finger of frothy, sudsy white head that collapses within a minute or two. A thin collar is the only remnant, with no cap and little in the way of lace. Grainy on the nose, with some doughy sweetness as well as hints of mustard seed and grassy, herbal hops.
It's on the spicy side for a pils. I'm tasting grainy malts and fair bit of doughy, honeyed sweetness, with spicy, floral hops surging forth at the tail end of the sip. Pepper, mustard, white wine and herbal bitterness, with malts lingering into the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with subdued carbonation that gently rolls across the tongue, giving some crispness to this otherwise smooth, soft-feeling lager. It was slow going at first, but once my taste buds acclimated, I found this to be a drinkable pils.
Final Grade: 3.57, a serviceable B grade. Publican House's Our Pet Pilsner is a distinct and distinguishable beer that is unlike most of the other Canadian-made pilsners you can find around here. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Decide for yourself! I found this to be a mixed bag - e.g. I liked the aroma, and it's nice to try something a bit different, but the flavour profile is lacking in balance, resulting in a somewhat lackluster experience. Try it, if only to support a good cause.

Yellow gold with just a hint of haze. Moderate head settles to a quite respectable cap. No lace. Too heavy handed. Sweet on the nose, on the palate, and to taste. Some grassy hops in there that struggle against the malt and sugar in this brew. Noticeable alcohol on the nose. Bitter finish. Just uncomfortable to drink, no grace. These guys usually do better.

Pours a dark gold colour with a small head. Slightly bitter on the nose and taste. A bit metallic on the taste, with cereals and malts in the background. Nicely carbonated
