had this at their oktoberfest opening on october 11, 2008
served in 1L stein
deep golden straw with amber and honey hues. slightly hazy. nice frothy head fades to wisps. moderate lacing.
aroma is a bit fruity, almost like their weizen... also malty and bready, but on the subtle side. hint of hop.
flavor also has bread with toasted malts, but some sort of phenolic quality persists and distracts slightly. grassy hop, with moderate bitterness, helps balance things out, but phenols and fruitiness linger.
not watery, but less smooth than hoped. moderate carbonation can be on the prickly side.
i think they use common brewing equipment for all their beers, so perhaps some weizen yeast contaminated this batch? it really tastes like some weissbier was blended in, accidentally or not.
