Hazies be damned! We’ve been brewing since before craft beer was cool, and our latest release embraces the punk spirit of those early days. We teamed up with some original beer rebels at Stoudts Brewing to bring you a beer that bucks the trends. What’s more punk rock than a black lager in a labeled 16oz. can? We don’t know. But we do know that this beer feasts on the souls of line mules, spits them back out, and laughs in the face of haze bois everywhere.

Solid black appearance with a long lasting tan head.
Aroma is a really nice mix of toast, dark bread, bread crust, toasted malt with a very slight bit of dark fruit.
Taste is very similar to the aroma, mild dry bitter hop bite yet some malt and molasses balances it out. Earthy with mild dark fruit and even more mild licorice.
Overall this was a really excellent enjoyable beer.

Best by 6/7/22, so I'm just under the wire. Whatever; the sorta-kinda Black Flag logo caught my eye and I wasn't going to pass on it. Big frothy tan head takes shape over a porter-esque body. Head thins to a sheen and leaves some spotty lacing. Doesn't smell as clean as I like my lagers, but it could just be the specialty malts mucking things up. I do get kind of a cherry note, though, which could or could not be a good thing. Guess I'll have to drink it to find out. Tastes toasty if not roasty... like slightly burnt toast. Light cocoa dust. Black olives and a pocket full of bloody nickels. Yeah, a little metallic. Age may be a factor so I'm not going to judge it too harshly, but this isn't terribly good. Mouthfeel is where you'd expect a 5.5% ABV lager to land, with maybe a little more creaminess. It's pretty solid on that front, actually. They'd best hope that Greg Ginn doesn't catch wind of this, though. That litigious bastard has a lot of cats of feed.

16oz can (?) poured into the closest thing I had to a pokal glass - a narrower pint glass: Lovely black body topped by an impressive white head that eventually settles into a nice cap w/significant lacing. Brown bread aroma. More brown bread & roasted malt taste. Pleasant carbonation with a lighter/thinner body that probably works best on a hot&humid day - I'll try again this Summer.

Sly Fox (no longer listing Stoudts) has a medium, beige head, a black appearance, with brown highlights, and some lacing. The aroma is of dark brown bread crust. The flavor is similar, with a slightly burnt note. Sly Fox has a thin body and a dry finish. RJT

Poured from a pounder can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Dark, dark brown pour... nearly black with 2 fingers of foamy off-white head. Great lacing.

S: Roast and grains. Earth and bread.

T.F: Just like it smells. Roasty toasty malts, bread, grains, and earth. Mild roast/hop bitterness plus a little cocoa. Medium bodied... clean and smooth. Some more roast to finish.

O: A nicely done black lager. Good flavor and easy drinking.

Did quite old says Best buy June and it's October so this beer must be 6 months old or older. Regardless it's not a bad Black lager mouth smoke some chalkiness a bit of chocolate still plenty of carbonation. Also the novelty of having such a weird with a pool top I've only seen a couple cans like that. Really hope they don't become commonplace cracking it produces a lot of beer mist.

16 oz. can poured into a dimpled mug.

Pouring burnt caramel brown in color and stacking black and opaque in the mug I get a nice sweet aroma. The khaki head is about an inch, fizzy and very short lived. Flavor is slightly bitter roast with a quick shot of malty caramel but otherwise dry and fairly clean. Smooth and medium bodied with light medium carbonation that seems a bit too light.
Nice but a bit dull. I feel like the weak carbonation (of my four pack) may be the culprit.

In reefer at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. $ 3.00 (Including tax)/16 oz can ($ 0.188/oz). Purchased 3/17/20 Undated can. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Reviewed 3/26/20.
Appearance – 3.
First pour – Deep amber – amber brown (SRM 15 - 18), clear.
Body – Deep brown (SRM 30), opaque. When held to direct light, no penetration..
Head – None, aggressive center pour, a one mm khaki crown fed by effervescence and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 - Medium roasted malt, no hops, no yeastiness
Flavor – 3.5 Medium roasted malt, slightly sweet, no hops, no yeast. No alcohol (5.5 % ABV as marked on the label) taste or aroma. No diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a medium hang time.
Palate – 3 – Medium, watery, medium carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 (Lost 0.25 point for undated single-serving container.) A decent schwarzbier, highlighting the roasted malt sans bitterness usually associated with it. The absence of a head is distressing, probably a function of the wide-mouthed drink-from can. The price is reasonable, and the label is presentable.

Black in color. Poured with a creamy, dark beige foam with medium low retention. Dark, sweet malt aromas with hint of graininess. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, a light smooth feel and a dry finish. Dark malty and light grainy flavors with a pleasant, mellow malty sweetness. Medium light, roasty bitterness followed by grainy and lightly burntvmalt flavors. Finished dryly with light roasty notes. Tasty and easy drinking with a dry, lightly roasty finish.

16 oz can. Collaboration with Stoudts

Black in color, khaki colored head. Good head retention. Mild aroma of dark chocolate and a touch of roast. Similar flavor, starts a little sweet but fairly balanced overall. Easy drinking, medium bodied, smooth.

Overall a very solid schwarzbier, great sendoff for Stoudts

Given the lack of reviews, I feel obligated to provide my input.

This was the first schwarzbier I have had, mind you, so keep that in mind.

Looks black. Head is present and persists for just enough time to impress. Lacing is evident.

A chocolatey malt aroma dominates, which prepared my mind for something like a stout.

A light bitterness helps balance the dark malts, with a pleasant coffee/chocolatey aftertaste.

This beer feels incredible. It has the taste of something like a porter or stout, but the feel of a pilsner. Both satisfying and refreshing.

Overall-I really enjoyed this brew and will be keeping an eye our for more schwarzbiers!

Pours near black with two fat fingers of light mocha foam. Great retention and even better lacing.

Crisp smelling with some roasted malts, coffee and a light hint of chocolate syrup.

A little weaker flavor than the nose let on. A mix of semi-sweet, semi-roasty flavors and more a lingering, corny lager finish than a crisp one.

Medium bodied, lightly creamy with zippy carbonation.

Solid, drinkable beer that’s quite possibly my last new beer from Stoudts. :(
