Tart Beer w/Muscat Grape Juice.
Every now and then you just want to walk into a party and make everyone else a little jealous. Well folks, here’s your glittery, delicious ticket! Glitter Bomb is a tart little treat for beer and wine lovers alike. We kettle sour this light ale, add wine-like Hallertau Blanc hops during the boil & maturation, and the beer is fermented with Muscat grape juice. For that big bright finish we age in locally sourced white wine barrels. Just remember, you may need to explain yourself a bit before you ask your friends if they want a Glitter Bomb. Fair warning!
Malts: Pilsner Malt, Pale Wheat, CaraFoam, Acidulated, Golden Naked Oats
Hops: Hallertau Blanc
IBU: 11

12/4/17....pale, clear, light gold with fast fizzy white foam. White wine grape nose, fruity, some citrus. Desperately dry wine taste, sparkling sour, fast and puckers. Crisp finish. Crafty.

I have the greatest wife. Whenever she's at the supermarket, she always stops by the beer section. I'll be working at my desk (or playing an electronic game truth be told) and I'll get a text from her or a call saying that she found something interesting and wondering if I would like her to buy it. More often than not... ok ... I always say hell yeah. She knows that I like Devil's Backbone so she noticed a variety pack. This was included in the variety pack.
It's an ale with grape juice, and I gotta tell ya that it has a strong taste like red wine. The first sip it was, oh, I don't know, man, the second sip, I was thinking, hey, this is kind of good. After the third sip you start googling where you can get more. After the fourth sip, it's, "Where's my pants?"
Good Stuff

Golden in color with a 1/2 finger white head that dissipates quickly. Near crystal clear except for the chill haze.
Tart and grapey on the nose with light woody funk.
Dry and tart with nice fruity grape in the back.
Light bodied and almost numbingly drying on the tongue.
I liked this beer. I've had a slew of sour beers this year, and I way prefer the wild ales to the goses.

A: A bright clear yellow with a white head.
S: Lightly tart with a moscato aroma. Like slightly funky white grape juice.
T: Tart and acidic up front, with a slight grape flavor in the finish. Refreshing, and clean, but the finish is a touch on the watery side.
M: Light body, with near effervescent carbonation. A bit of a pucker from the tartness in the dry finish.
O: Overall not a bad brew.. interesting, and enjoyable, but a touch tame for the style.

Type: 12oz. bottle
Bottled: 06/12/2017
Glass: Duvel Tulip
This beer pours a clean ever so slight golden in color a little darker in appearance than white wine. In the glass it produces a one finger white head that dissipates to a ring and leaves little lacing. Aromas of grape, grape skin, lemon, and a little mustiness. The flavor is grape skin up front, transitioning into lemon acidity, and finishing with mild bitterness and slight funk. The brew is clean and crisp with moderate carbonation and finishes decently dry which keeps bringing you back.
Overall, nothing earth shattering, but a solid sour from a brewery not normally known for their sours. Nice execution from Devil's Backbone. This is a brew that I would gladly drink if available and not turn down. Thank you Cat for the opportunity and bringing this back for me from Virginia, very thoughtful and appreciated! Feels good to review a beer again after being out of the game for a number of years.
