Review written up from notes taken at the brewery taproom the other day.
Very clear pale yellow, rising bubbles. Decent-sized layer of foam on top initially, but shrinks down to a thin cap within a couple minutes and then gradually starts to fade away entirely.
Smell: GRAPEFRUIT! Maybe the vaguest hint of pale malt waaaay off in the background, but for the most part, the smell is exactly like grapefruit. Definitely a pleasant first impression.
Grapefruit is also very prominent in the flavor, though not quite as much as in the smell at first. The grapefruit plus the carbonation gives it a grapefruit-soda sort of impression at first, like Fresca or soemthing. A little bit of a malty flavor on the end. Surprisingly bitter, to the point of being a little harsh at times. Lingering fruity/slightly malty sort of aftertaste, once the bitterness clears out. Burps are coming up as sweet-ish grapefruit. The lingering bitterness starts to build up a bit toward the end.
Light and very fizzy, almost prickly. Very dry. Pretty drinkable. Kind of refreshing, might be good to have with some food rather than by itself.
That bitterness (which I can only assume is coming from the grapefruit itself rather than hops, since I'm not noticing any hoppy flavors with it and other sites list it as only 10 IBU!) is... a bit more than I would've liked, but it definitely lives up to its name. Not one of my favorites, but worth trying -- I don't think I'd go for a full six-pack of them, but I didn't have any difficulty finishing a single pint. If you're a big fan of grapefruit I'd definitely recommend trying this if you're up at the brewery (I believe it's a taproom-only thing.)
