This was the beer of the People. It was originally brewed for the locals, who lost a piece of their city when Carlsberg closed Stavanger's only brewery in 2003. Our Pilsner is brewed with 100% Pilsner malts, Perle and Saaz hops, fresh German lager yeast, and carefully lagered to give the beer an authentic touch and clean finish.

This rating is for the version brewed between 2005 and 2018. Rating written in September 2005: 330 ml brown bottle. Locally brewed by Lervig in Stavanger. Gone are the clear bottles and pilseners contract brewed by Mack and Trio. This one is very pale straw coloured, decent lingering head. Pleasant fruity aroma, notes of honey and grass too. Very light bodied, tolerable hoppy character, some bitterness in the aftertaste. No offensive sidenotes. Better than the contract brewed (now retired) Lervig Pilsner.

Can. Clear straw with a thin bubbly head.
Euro lager smell.
Decent malt backbone and the noble hops make a slight appearance.
Crisp and dry.
Rated to style and found wanting in some areas.

L- Crystal clear, very pale straw, pours with 3mm white head.
S- Very mild, all I get is a general lager smell.
T- It's quite hoppy, in a more trad/authentic pilsener style than a contemporary twist on such. It also has some bready richness too. Subtle though, my palate is a bit worn-out this pm, so this is struggling to make an impact.
F- It's pleasant enough, very drinkable...
O- ... just not particularly distinctive in any notable way, which leaves it's price feeling pretty rich.
Bought from Wholefoods, London W8 £2.39/330ml can BB: 18/07/20
ps. The can has new labelling, a kid-style graphic of 13 stick-men in green and blue spelling 'Pils'.

Too bad to have such an average pils from such an accomplished micro who seems to brew some popular RIS and NEIPA.
As for Lervig's pilsner, it was decent; refreshing and a semi-dry that lasts... just not memorable.
I went on Lervig's website and their story does not seem unique for crafters. But this can for the pils is very standard looking compared to the artwork on their other brews. Standard can, standard brew. Consistent.

Can at La Estraza. At lunch With Pedro and Miguel. With Thai Pad and with chicken with cuscus. A bit better than average german pilsener with a watery body. Nothing memorable but drinks easy
