Similar to Raleigh Brewing's House of Clay, but not as smooth...nice hop and rye flavor, not much complexity, but still well executed.

Look: It pours a golden orange with a fluffy orange head.
Smell: There is a strong rye aroma. There are background aromas of orange and some spices. The is a bit of a caramel note about it as well.
Taste; It has a rye and biscuit flavor with orange, floral, and some spiciness to it.
Feel: It has a moderate body with a spicy bitter after taste.
Overall, this beer is highlighted by the rye, but the hops also play a quality and complex supporting roll making the overall taste experience good.

From a can.
L - Deep golden color with a strong, fluffy, off-white head. Just a bit hazy and with lots of carbonation bubbles.
S - Assertive pine and tropical fruit hops over a bready malt aroma. There is a spicy twang to the aroma that might be from the rye.
T - Very aggressive tropical fruit hops flavors do not let much else show through. Bready malt with some low spicy notes are in the background, along with low, sweet alcohol.
F - Strong, carbonation in a medium to full body comes across as pleasantly velvety. Low alcohol burn. Solid punch of hops bitterness. Sweet, slightly cloying finish.
O - This is an interesting beer that does many things well. For me the overly sweet finish and slightly harsh hops flavors are my only minor complaints. Enjoyable.

Slightly hazy amber color with beige head. You can get the rye and the malts in general on the aroma but also the earthy/resiny hops. Taste starts also with the spicy rye malt, it gets even a bit astringent/acrid in combination with the hops. Finish has intense bitterness and lingers a long time on the aftertaste. Medium body with low to medium carbonation. Not bad at all but it's quite harsh with the intense bitterness and rye flavor.

Picked up at Harris Teeter in Morrisville. I thought I had tried all of Aviator's standard offerings. For the record, my can lists the abv at 6.4%. Really nice, drippy, sticky lace after a big cream colored head dissipates. Caramel meets pine in the nose with a late touch of rye spice.
A medium body pale ale with some late breaking bitterness that carries into the finish where it mixes with the rye. These have nice balance and rate out as quite drinkable for the abv. Solid if not spectacular.

Growler, poured into a snifter.
L: Slightly hazy copper colored with 2 finger, lingering head, good lacing
S: Definite rye character on the nose with spicy hops
T: Rye spiciness balanced well with same spicy hops that are seen on the nose. Fairly malty.
F: Good overall carbonation and mouthfeel.
O: Worth grabbing some if you see it and like rye beers, not really worth seeking out.
