on cask at the brewpub in Milwaukee, shortly after trying the tap version; the cask version had some chocolate added during the casking process.

pours a chocolate brown color with a minimal light tan head that has poor retention and leaves no lacings.

aroma is lightly fruity with some roasted chocolate notes mixed in. a touch of spice after some swishing as well. not much of a porter in the nose (much like the tap version), but still well put together for what it is.

taste is more of the same with a more pronounced chocolate note and the same fruity ale yeast from the aroma that carries through t the back end. pleasant on the palate, and very mellow.

mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth with a light finish of residual slickness. the addition of chocolate does not seem of affect the overall mouthfeel at all.

drinkability is very good. as far as casks go, this is a decent porter, though it still needs some more roasted notes , much like the tap version. worth a try, expecially next to the tap version, which makes for an interesting comparison.

A - dark in color with zero head on it

S - smelled of licorice, raisin, and burnt malt. Pretty much what I was expecting based on the description provided for it.

T - the taste followed the nose. there were hints of licorice and caramel malt, which was followed by some burnt malt on the finish

M - thin mouth to it

D - this was pretty good, easy to drink. No regrets on the order.

A: Deep chestnut brown color with ruby highlights around the edges when held up to the light. Poured a 1 finger creamy tan head with good retention. Laced in thick ring that clung to the sides of the glass.

S: Roasted caramel malts, coffee toasted malts and a hint of bitter chocolate.

T: Toast, bitter coffee and chocolate. A foundation of hop spice builds in the finish. Very distinct flavors add a pleasant complexity.

M: Full side of medium body. Low carbonation provides for a smooth and creamy feel that coats the mouth and tongue ahead of a balanced bitter finish

D: I really enjoyed this beer. It has good flavor but, at the same time, maintains balance - to me, one of the things that really improve drinkability.

Pours a clear deep copper with a medium beige head. Flavor is very sweet with caramel and specialty malts. The flavor is sweet malt, dark corn syrup, brown sugar and a bit nutty. Light bodied, thin mouthfeel. Finishes short and dry. Really more of a Brown Ale than a Porter.

A - Very nice dark brown color with a translucent base. The head is a pale tan and thin standing at less than an eighth of an inch.

S - Sweet chocolate aroma with accents of black licorice.

T - Chocolate with edges of clove. This is a very full flavored porter.

M - Smooth and easy to sip. The texture is soft and can be felt throughout my my including my cheeks.

~ I am quite impressed with this brew. I purchased this growler more than 12 days ago and it has really maintained its freshness. I have to admit this would be a great desert, or possibly even a good breakfast brew. I'm glad I have a full growler.
