Appears an opaque onyx with deep mahogany edges when held to the light. A thick tan head slowly fades into a gentle cap and collar. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is roasted barley, concord grapes, candi sugar, pine sap, cut wood, molasses, and a touch of booziness.
Taste is of the aromas with a blast of molasses, roasted grain, sugar, and caramel. Some grass notes and bitters meld with the sweetness. Lots of doughy bread in there, along with raisin sweetness.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, bitter-sweet like a dark chocolate, and slick on the swallow.
Good beer. It's been a few years since I've had an Imperial Stout from McK.
