Drachenodem is a rich and full bodied doppelbock with a hint of smoke and fire from the addition of rauchmalt and conditioning on jalapeños. Lagered in the traditional way, unfiltered, and naturally carbonated in the can.

Pours a dark amber with ruby red highlights and an off white head.
Dark fruit - plum, currant - with roasted malt bread, smoked malt and jalapeños.
Taste follows the nose with the heat in the back end and a nice balance between smoke and heat.

16oz can into a pint glass, part of a 4 pack picked up at the brewery yesterday. No freshness dating.
Clear dark brown body with reddish highlights. Small off white head, but no lacing. Aroma is malty, and slightly smokey. On tasting, decent sweetness from the base doppelbock. Smokiness is mild and very clean. The conditioning on jalapeños adds a serious but not overwhelming pepper heat to the finish, mainly in the throat.
Overall, sometimes you see a beer on the shelf that sounds like a train wreck, but you have to buy it. Mostly this is followed by regret, but that isn't the case here. Considering the smoke and conditioning on jalapeños, this is a very clean beer, and quite enjoyable. Admittedly my tolerance for heat is high, having grown up in England and eating curry several times a week. Happy to have another 3 cans to enjoy, and would certainly buy again.
