Too effervescent. I smell sour but I don't taste it. Poor taste in general. Not bitterness. I think I grabbed a bad bottle...

A:
Pours a hazy ruddy gold with a very active head that initially is gargantuan but which eventually (3-4 pours later) settles at a fat, creamy beige film. Great retention (almost too great); lots of little cloudish patches of lacing.
S:
Sweet, funky yeast with a hint of tartness. Chalk, bubblegum, floral scents, horseblanket, earthy/hoppy spice, white pepper.
T:
Soft, dry, and simple. Cereals and vaguely dark grains, mild nut flavors, some slight hop spiciness and a little yeast coming through towards the end. Interesting, fairly inoffensive.
M:
Velvety and smooth, medium body with champange-like carbonation and a lingering, slightly sour aftertaste.
O:
Pretty good and very interesting beer.
These guys make some very tasty beers in my humble opinion, and this one—while a little different—is pretty nice as well.
It pours obnoxiously foamy but otherwise looks the picture of a perfect beer, rarely being seen without foam; and even then a quick swirl brings it all back. It is a very nice smelling beer, with a pretty fierce yeast character. Taste-wise it is a little less awesome. It is a solid beer, but is not mind-blowing by any means. You can definitely taste the spelt, it seems like it gives it a bit of a smoother quality like wheat would (to me at least). On the whole it is not bad, but maybe not great either.
Would maybe have again; some of their other beers might be more appealing for people wanting to try their beers.
