Really a better beer than I thought it'd be. The amount of chocolate/cocoa flavors and roasted coffee that comes through in a CLEAN way is actually impressive. Had a slight gritty feel from some reason but overall, a good beer.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and lactose sugar aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder and chocolate syrup flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with an awesome combination of cocoa powder and chocolate syrup aspects that is much better in the taste to me.

Serving type: on tap.
