Appearance: Slightly cloudy and just a touch darker than straw. Not so cloudy you can't see through it, but not brilliant. Very carbonated and a careful pour is needed to keep this beer from overflowing in your glass. Creamy white head with tiny bubbles and good lacing. Foam cap has staying power and doesn't immediately disappear.
Smell: Tangy, tart, sour, brett? I classified this beer as a Flanders Red because of the wild yeast characteristics, but I'm not sure if it was intended as the bottle makes no mention of style, just "Red Rye". As a fan of certain Belgians, the aroma is inviting.
Taste: Very reminiscent of Orval and crisp. Slight barnyard, but not nearly as strong as expected from the aroma. Malt and hops play second fiddle here to the tartness from the wild yeast. So reminiscent of Orval that it really makes me like this beer. I'm amazed at how close they are!
Mouthfeel: Crisp, dry, cleansing.
Overall: I really liked this beer and was pleasantly suprised! I was actually buying it expecting a traditional red. Definintely recommend it for people who have an affinity for Belgians.
