Very dark red, red foam, evanescent.
A bit of cork effect in the nose. Under that, a lot of cherries, quite sweet.
In the taste a good sourness, light astringency, but goo cherry notes, and cherry stones, too.
Less sweet than the smell, and quite interesting.
Not the best kriek, for sure, but honest and drinkanle, with a good sourness.
Fruity end, sour and lightly astringent.

Poured from 375mL corked & capped bottle into my BeerAdvocate tulip. Label says 2014.

Appearance: rich red hue with a little bit of haze and a thin finger of frothy pink foam atop. Pretty!

Smell: lightly sweet and very floral cherry aroma. Makes me think a lot more of cherry blossoms than the fruit. Subtle, but I like it.

Taste: quite sour up front, along with a good cherry flavor. It's a bit on the dry side, which I think kicks up the impression of tartness. I'm a big cherry fan, so you know I love it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a light carbonation and an OK texture.

Overall: this beer is good, and I really like the flavor, but the tartness is quite high and impedes drinkability a little bit. Still, a very nice beer.

Pours a ruddy, coppery red with an extremely quickly dissipating head and little visible carbonation.

The nose is tart, almost vinegary cherry with some harsh oak notes.

Taste follows the aroma, with more oak than evident in the aroma. That oak note verges on bitterness and is complemented by cherry skin tannins. Acidity is high leaving a puckering, tongue-smacking impression.

Mouthfeel is minimal, with the light carbonation adding to the overall experience.

Overall it's a well made kriek that rewards time to warm in the glass, which allows the acidity to become less prevalent and the tannins and cherry to take over.

An obscurity that some may already know under the pseudonym “Lambickx Kriek” which is sadly no longer produced.

Pours placidly with a finger of finely textured pale pink foam, settles down to a thin unbroken skim without any lacing. Deep scarlet crimson tone, pours bright but has a slight haze in the glass.

Aroma is nice, acidic sour cherry and almond cherry pits, a touch of medicinal Brett funk. Distinctive and familiar, again reminiscent of the old Lambickx Kriek.

Tart acidic cherries, slight basement funk, possibly from the cork. Natural sour cherry essence, tastes like real fruit thankfully, and not like the fruit syrupy Chapeau stuff. Soft texture, steady visible carbonation but easy on the palate. Pleasantly dry with mild oak and cherry skin tannin in the aftertaste.

Very good overall, and a promising step towards the more traditional side of production, influenced by the new generation of brewery ownership. Worth a try, especially if you miss the spectacular Lambickx Kriek like I do.

Belgian Fruit Lambic #152

2014 vintage, really stunningly impressive. i have often overlooked these guys for some reason, perhaps because the few ive had have been sweeter, but they make an awesome base lambic and it should not be discounted in favor of the ones the nerds and traders all freak out about. after all, a lot of the best young blenders in the game are buying de troch juice, and this amazing cherry lambic suggests why. its crystal clear ruby toned and even has a short white head on it, just sparkling in the glass, super well refined looking, just a little sediment to be roused in the bottom of the corked and capped green bottle. the aroma and flavor are just fantastic, tart cherry, real fruit, very dry, tons of funkiness to it, lots of wild lambic character underneath, uniquely acidic, citrusy, heavily wooded, raw on the grain side, slightly herbal, nice tannins, light vanilla and even plum notes to it, no oxidation at all. not sure if its the age that makes this so good, or if it was this bomb when it was first packaged, but i am truly blown away. we had this with grilled halibut and it was mental! the cherry really pops in here, the wood and funk are unique, mouthwatering sourness but super clean at the end, and there is some carbonation present to brighten it up. i would put this up there with almost any oude kriek out there, and will definitely be on the hunt for more de troch lambic moving forward. this blew me away, easily the best of their beers i have ever had! not to be missed for the kriek fan!

375ml capped and corked bottle served in a pair of Cantillon glasses. 1712R 07:4065 is printed on the neck, but I have no clue what that means.

Pours a pretty ruby red, mostly translucent, smallish head, pretty low carbonation. Smell is tart, cherries, cellar. Like, I smell an actual cellar.

Taste is tart, dry, cherries, and some funk. It is both simple and not. It's nice.

Mouthfeel is smooth, dry. Overall, this is a nice beer. Not world class, but very enjoyable and worth seeking out.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

375 mL bottle. Deep red. Not much of a head. Smell is really nice cherry and acidity. Oak. Wheat and some funk. Taste is a little less dynamic. Lemony sourness. Cherry, but not a deep or sweet cherry. Strong oak. A little astringent. Low carbonation. Very enjoyable. Surprisingly good for a De Troch lambic.
