Lovelace Lager is one of the grand Re-opening selections at the WVBC and it's a pretty solid entry. The menu board says it's a "Pre-prohibition style lager" and the bartender wasn't up on other specifics, but it looks and feels like a Vienna so that's what I'm calling it. Ned, if you read this and I'm wrong please set me straight.
Brownish amber with a solid head and good lacing. Solid carbonation.
Good lightly-toasted malt smell with fair hoppiness. Pleasant aroma.
Taste is a smooth, nutty malt with a crisp hop overlay. Good example of the style (If I'm right). It reminds me a lot of Yuengling lager draught.
Crisp and refreshing. Carbonation is high enough to refresh and low enough to allow for a quick quaff without bloating. I didn't eat anything with this, but I felt it would well complement a burger and fries. Drinkable, drinkable beer.
Bottom line: This - and the Raspberry Wheat - have restored my faith in "The Brewpub." Worth a try.
