Outback IPA, no freshness date, poured from a 32oz "Cowboy can" crowler.
Appearance - Pours hazy and deep copper red color with an off-white finger width head. Good retention, eventually settling to a thin, consistent film across the surface. Lacing is streaky with small spots.
Smell - Tropical hop aroma. Citrus, with hints of pineapple and mango. Light toast notes in the malt.
Taste - Follows the nose. Not especially potent, but well balanced flavor. Hop notes hit on a bit of orange and grapefruit, along with mango and a trace of pineapple and also leafy character. Malts sit beneath, delivering a nice, mellow toasted bread backbone. The finish comes with a hint of orange pith bitterness.
Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair carbonation. Silky texture. Goes down with ease.
Overall - This is a really nice IPA from a small town brewery. It steers away from being your typical aggressive hop bomb, and instead delivers fine balance with a nicely layered flavor profile. Unfortunately that's also where it hits its limitations. This beer isn't outstanding but it's a pretty darn good drinker.
