Bought two cans from Beer Drop. My first from Spice Trade was their Tripel, and I gave it a WOW review; but noted that the yeast was un-classical, so it suppressed my rating.
Tamarind Dubbel is an equally interesting ale; but has the same issue of a low-performing yeast whose liveliness probably is, in part, dragged down from the flavors and spices created by adding tamarind. But these brewers are skilled and, by adding tamarind, they have made a delicious ale.
Comparing Tamarind's Looks to the classic dubbels, it is below average. And while Smells are muted, the plum/tamarind aromas are unique and welcome. Tastes are balanced; but best is the finish... a long drying sensation that, if I were to describe it, I probably would destroy it. In my mouth this can sit a long time and I probably still could not figure out its appeal.
Tonight, I had intended to test Tamarind paired with pasta and a red sauce. But I was so intrigued, I drank it all. I will have the second can with the red sauce, but summer is upon us... so expect a revised review this Fall.
I'm liking Spice Trade and how they take the Belgian brewing tradition and mix it up with the Asian kitchen. I look forward to more, presumably via Beer Drop.
7/10/21 Had the second can; paired it with a classic Indian dal makhani. Decent. The ale's sweetness calmed the palate and the ginger seemed to fit into the whole experience. I'm keeping count over at UnTappd.... but I'm also most likely to try Spice Trade's other Belgians.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
