The Judge is a dark and thick Chocolate Milk Stout, with dark chocolate and roasted malts showcased in the nose and a nice and subtly sweet vanilla finish.

A chestnut foam reaches two inches and is a tight mix of rocky and fizzy bubbles. The head gradually drops, becoming more rocky as it does. The beer is black, verging on dark chocolate brown, with faint auburn highlights. Spotty lace forms on a Pretentious Glass Company Dimpled Mug, as the head reaches its final stage, that being a creamy half inch.
The aroma opens with chocolate that is overpowered by malted milk balls and then again by soapiness. This aroma has surprisingly little character.
The flavor is more roasty than I had expected, with mild milk sugar countering the mild malt bitterness. It tastes a bit like the last puffs of a cigar. Warmth reveals black coffee. The finish is modest and lingering, re-presenting mild sweetness and bitterness.
The body is medium with a scratchy wool texture. Carbonation is modest. Alcohol is as expected. Astringency is higher than expected.
This beer is better suited as a beverage to enjoy while shooting pool than as an experience in itself. It actually brought back memories of an after-work gathering, shooting pool with colleagues, drinking Guinness, and watching OJ in his Bronco.
