This Black IPA is made with special debittered German chocolate malt for it’s smooth flavor and color. We’ve also used Torrified wheat and crystal malts to give it a well rounded mouthfeel. All of the hop flavor and aroma comes from a very large late addition of Columbus, Amarillo and centennial and an extremely huge dry hop addition of Columbus and Amarillo.

Best lonerider beer so far. Charred malts, great head, nose, taste and bitterness is full on as it should be. Nice head and lacing. Superbly done my new friends

First, are we sure it's retired?
This was an impressive black IPA. It was overall quite balanced, and if anything leaned toward the "black" for me rather than the "IPA." And I was quite impressed even though there was no one highlight flavor as there is in an imperial IPA (hops) or a barrel stout (malts and/or booze).
Look - Totally stoutlike in appearance. Deep and black with a quite tan head that lingered and laced.
Smell - Not as big on the nose, though nothing offensive, either. Hinted at a light chocolaty malt at the same time as hops.
Taste - "Balance" was the first word that came to mind. But came in stages for me. Much like a dark malty beer and then the hops arrive midway to accentuate the aftertaste.
Feel - smooth and rich. not creamy, just smooth.
Overall - I didn't know what to expect and this took me by surprise with being exactly what it said it was

Apparently retired but not gone yet, as I picked this up last week (April 6th? 7th?) at Once Upon a Vine - South in the RVA.
As far as Cascadians go, this one is a little less hopped up than most others I have had but what sets this apart is that it's a licorice bomb of sorts. Big time licorice in fact.
