"RUBARB is a Rusted Up Beyond All Recognition Bike. It is also a wonderfully fun collaboration beer we made with a group of Boise Publicans known for making the Boise Tour de Fat the ultimate bike and beer experience. Our love for this group brought them on a road trip to Fort Fun, and they brought 50 lbs of fresh, organic rhubarb from Peaceful Belly Farms with them. This RUBARB is a lovely Farmhouse Ale brewed with White Wheat, Oats and Spelt, and fermented with a funky Saison yeast. We dry-hopped with Sorachi Ace, Cascade and Mosaic hops to boost the hop citrus and fruity hop aromas to help the back-of-the-throat rhubarb bitterness that lingers. Pour a glass and take this RUBARB for a spin."
Big pint tonight at Bittercreek.... Pours a fairly clear straw yellow... Short-lived white head leaves behind little lacing.
Nose is pretty spicy traditional saison phenolic notes... nice hit of white peppercorn and lesser clove. No real fruitiness that I can pick out, but there is a good citrus hop presence.
A little bitter throughout... I guess that is the rhubarb.. again, pretty spicy but more of a estery fruitiness is present than the aroma.. citrus notes mirror the nose... Light body with good carbonation makes me want another sip... very drinkable.
I really don't know what rhubarb tastes like, but the wife does... she says the rhubarb taste is light and shows more in the aroma and more as a bitterness on the palate.
Cool concept for the beer and the brewing process.
