In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brouweri Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries.
This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon's brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon's offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium's Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek.
The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

*2015 vintage with Oue Beersel, 22 ounce bottle into a wine glass.
I'll just keep this one quick. First off, this pours gorgeous! Nice deep red body with a nice pink head. Looks closely like a Kriek Lambic. Next the aroma is different...not in a good way. This smells like grains with faint cherry and dog hair. Yeah, not really melding together.
The flavor is going in that direction also, yet not really reaching out to the drinker. This first hits the palate with grains, almost as if it were a malt liquor with lacto sourness. Notes of cherry and wood with a spicy and wet finish. The feel on this is watery and tight prickly carbonation.
Overall: This brew isn't screaming anything to me! It's not adventurous not taking you to a new level of lambic goodness. It's like someone put watered down sour cherry flavored syrup into a bottle of Steel Reserve. Hey, atleast Steel is a hell of a lot cheaper than this swill and doesn't proclaim to be "craft" beer. Mediocre at best. I cannot recommend this brew.

From old, undated notes; poured from the bottle.
Beautiful deep red; slightly see-through.
Lovely.
Red-ish off-white head; a curtain of lace.
Sour cherry smell.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Cherry-forward taste, not overly sour.
Real quaffable, but with a distinct flavor. Winning.

Delicious, I don't have anything douchey to say, it's just really good.
