While on tour I was shown the watermelon flavoring: It was made by Concord Foods in Brockton MA. I called this company and 92% + of the flavor and aroma comes from artificial chemicals. BHB list this as natural flavor on their labels?

On-tap 4/25/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub, in Pawtucket, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a pale yellow color, with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a thick on the glass.

S: The aroma contains a lot of watermelon, some wheat, some malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with a strong and sweet flavor of watermelon followed by breadiness from wheat and a light malt character. The hops presence is very mild but it still brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-high carbonation, finish is slightly sweet.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, very mild kick, decent representation of style, it’s not a bad beer but not the type that I would want to be forced to choose.

A-Pours honey color. Slight head. Doesn't leave much in the way of lacing.

S-Quite sturdy on the watermelon. Less artificial than other watermelon beers. Also slight wheatiness.

T-Heavy on the watermelon. Closer to real watermelon flavor than that 'Jolly Rancher' artificial watermelon flavor. Wheaty. Light and crisp.

M-Very bubbly. Light in body. Crisp and clean.

O/D-Don't love watermelon beers, but I have had far worse than this one. Good for the style. Won't ever get it again.

Poured a 1.5" white head which quickly dissipated. Hazy lemonade yellow color and I'll admit I was pleased it didn't look like a watermelon Jolly Rancher. The smell of watermelon is nice but completely overwhelms any of the beer aspects in smell. Taste is like a weak wine cooler, at least it's not pure fruit syrup. There is a little malt coming through. Really I'm not picking up any of the hints it's a wheat beer.

A: A clear golden pour with a fizzy white head. Little lacing or retention.

S: Tons of sweet watermelon syrup with a decent wheat base.

T: Not as unbalanced as the smell. Actually quite balanced to say for sure. Very nice watermelon that's not overly sweet. Smooth, clean wheat malt complements it nicely. Very simple but tasty.

M: Super smooth and clean. Decent carbonation. You expect it to taste syrupy from the smell but it's not at all.

O: A great summer beer. A light wheat beer mixed with watermelon makes for an extremely refreshing mix.

Pours with a three-finger white head that vanishes leaving no lace. Hazy amber color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Watermelon nose and flavor is sweet watermelon, hops are in background. Hot summer day ale. $4.55 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

This beer pours a deep cloudy yellow, with a nice wispy head of foam on the top.

The smell is profoundly watermelon and citrus of some type (I think lemon), and, as is common with well made wheat beers, you get a banana and clove smell as well. Its an awesome smelling beer.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth on the tongue and palate.

Taste is exceptional- watermelon dominates but doesn't overpower, and you get the earthy notes from the wheat and bavarian yeast. Its beautifully balanced and smooth. One of the bottles I sampled did have a tangy, sour aftertaste

Poured from BHB Bomber into wine glass.

Very hazy gold with fairly foamy head that fell to nothing. Poor lacing throughout - not typical for a wheat/oat [if present] based brew. No visible rising carbonation.

Smell was subtle overall, good bready yeast aroma mixed well with the diluted fruit juice aromas of watermelon. Not sure of the yeast but no phenols that would present a typical wheat/hefe clove/banana - assuming they are using american ale strain.

Balanced is the first thing I noticed. Hop and malt meet in the middle but the taste of watermelon [much like any melon juice] had me expecting a syrupy finish, but didn't.

Medium to light body - Not certain of wheat percentage but fell short on creamy/smooth mouthfeel to me. Again no syrupy mouthfeel and finishes fairly crisp which is nice.

Because its a fruit beer I would say its worth trying - or for me , grabbing again in the future on occasion. Not a session beer but could become a summer addition - Supporting local breweries!

a - a very hazy orange/yellow color to it

s - definitely a sweet and fruity aroma to it

t - A very concentrated watermelon flavor with a refreshing wheat ale flavor to it. A little heavier than I expected it to be probably from the watermelon flavoring

m - the sweetness takes some of that typical wheat beer crispness out of it

o - I would probably buy this again. For a fruit beer it's not bad. I could see myself being outside in the sun enjoying this with friends.

Smells and tastes like fake watermellon. If I blind taste tested this, I wouldnt even know it was beer.

Really confused by this offering and why it's popular. Maybe they use real watermellon but I doubt it. This is like a jolly rancher. I dont even think non-beer drinkers would like this.

Nope just checked, they use watermellon extract per their website.

I tried this right after having the Wampatuck Wheat. A lot of the same characteristics. A hazy golden yellow that is slighting tinged pink with a lot of carbonation. A lot of lemon grass and some light banana. The wheat makes the body very light and crisp with a strong lemon twist. Watermelon is pronounced at first but fades nicely into the background. The watermelon is not overbearing and compliments the light wheat body nicely. Very refreshing and perfect for a warm day when your craving something sweet.

Light amber in colour with a modest cap of beige foam. The head was a bit sticky, but short lived. Sweet, fruity aroma with a bit of malt. Quite heavy on cotton candy, berry character with an earthy green rind aroma in the background. Smells a bit tart as well. There's more of a clean watermelon fruitiness in the flavour than in the aroma, but with more of a caramel malt sweetness than wheat and a juiciness that I associate more with fruit candy than watermelon. Slightly tart with a hint of spice towards the finish. Medium bodied and on the slick side, moderate carbonation. I found this to be a very strange beer. I can't say that it impressed me, but I wasn't put off by it either. Very middle of the road.

Poured out of a large bottle into a small pint glass. Served cool.

A-cloudy golden body, spongy white head

S-fruity, yeasty, jolly rancher candy smell

T-bubblegum, strong jolly rancher taste.

M-light, somewhat slick

D-strong fruity flavor but where's the beer. A little cloying.

Picked up a growler at the brewery. Split it between me and my wife. Served in Harpoon UFO Hefe glasses. Peach colored body with a thin fizzy head. Average amount of carbonation. You can really get a sense of the watermelon in the smell, as it's very potent. Taste was also a very large dose of watermelon. Not a lot of other flavor characteristics noticed other than that fruit. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly crisp, but a bit on the cloying side. This is an easy beer to drink as it's extremely light, tastes pleasant, and has a low abv. A nice hot summer day beer. My wife really liked this beer; I am still on the fence. I would like to see this beer more as a wheat beer with a hint of watermelon. I would currently call this brew a fruit beer.

Dense head which diminishes slowly, leaving plentiful ring lace. The broth is a dark gold/light amber color with a tint of orange. Cloudy.

The smell, which I believe comes from the watermelon, reminds me of children's aspirin--sweet and slightly tart, like candied orange. It's appealing in a soda pop way.

The beer seems flat, not enough carbonation. The flavor is complex: the watermelon shows up strongest in the swallow, but the aftertaste is sour, bitter and quite dry. I cannot detect any wheat, but the grain is present and soft.

Enjoyed a 22 oz. bottle of this Watermelon Wheat beer while visiting Cape Cod...Good head retention, wonderful watermelon aroma and a amber hue...

Much darker color than I am used to with a Wheat beer...not much spice and citrus flavor that I was looking for because the watermelon flavor shines through...good flavor and served its purpose as I enjoyed it while waiting for my dinner to cook...I always gravitate to trying any watermelon wheat beer for some reason as I am not always interested in fruit flavored beers, outside of the occasional lambic...This beer was good...It had a nice frothy head on it and it had a good watermelon scent...It was nice drinking this on a humid Cape Cod evening...

Appearance: no head, cloudy/murky, high carbonation, sediment -pinkish brown in color

Smell: fruity watermelon, sweet flowers, and wheat

Taste: wheat, hops, earth, and watermelon that is present especially at the end

Mouthfeel: slightly bitter with a touch of sweetness at the end, light bodied, medium carbonation

Drinkability: This one is almost like eating a watermelon rind first. The wheat and earth flavors jump out of the gate and only at the end do you get the watermelon taste. To their credit the watermelon does taste natural. A good beer that is one per sitting. I would like to see them make this a tad sweeter.

I tried this beer because its unusual, watermelon beer!! Cool sounds good to me. Well I poured this into a pint glass and it has a good head, a pink hue and good watermelon aroma. This is very easy to drink! I could totally get in trouble but thank god its a session beer. I normally dont go for fruity beers but this is not not sweet, its just right.

My wife love this beer too, and as soon as she sees me open it she goes and grabs a glass for herself. So much for drinking the whole 22!

Poured from the tap into a plastic pint cup.

The color is cloddy and is a bit yellow like a hefeweizen and other wheat beers.

The smell is a bit wheaty at first. Some slight hoppiness to the flavor and a little fruit flavor in the background.

The taste is mostly wheat at first with a touch of hops. Just as the beer is going down a nice watermelon kick comes through the last of the beer. A nice sweetness that is leveled out by the wheat flvaor.

The feel of this beer is and light. Makes for one great summer beer. It has a great taste and is pretty drinkable.

Reviewed on 06/22/2009. I had this on draft. Pours a cloudy yellow-orange with a white head. Aroma is mostly wheat malt with some yeast, clove, and sweetness. Flavor of sweet watermelon like a Jolly Rancher. A little artificial tasting but still quite nice.
