Apricot Ale
Appearance: Served a light peach apricot color with a decent head and moderate lacing.
Smell: A fruity nose with apricot and malt and a bit of cane sugar.
Taste: Smooth malty apricot flavor with nice splash of caramel and sugars and the lightest hint of grassy hops. The flavor is a bit thin, that is, light through the center but it is typical for a fruit beer and certainly pleasant. Extremely approachable.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy texture with some zip (from the citrus) in an otherwise fairly light body beer.
Drinkability: A more than adequate fruit beer period.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!

Was surprised to see this beer on the menu, as it's not exactly the fruit harvesting season, but we'll see how it is. Just so happens there's 2 places in town with #9 on tap (which is odd for a place like Harrisonburg) just as Calhoun's releases this one. Just thought that was an interesting coincidence. Anyway, pours from the growler a hazed golden apricot color with a tight, 2 finger, eggshell head that reduces slowly and leaves some good lacing. Though it's hazed, it looks a little thin and it has low visible carbonation, but still manages to look nice. It smells of sweet/dried apricot, pale malts, and maybe some earthy/peat malts. Tastes the same with hints of floral hops, and perhaps caramel and citrus. The body is medium to light and is creamy and smooth with high carbonation despite the low visible effervescence. The second half of the growler seemed to be more flavorful, maybe the sediments and goodies all sank and made those glasses taste better, I dunno. Overall pretty good for a fruit beer released out of season.
