fairly certain i got the name right here, they were just calling it oatmeal stout when i had it. its one of the lightest stouts that i can recall ever having, i actually thought they may have messed up and poured me the nut brown, its more brown than black by a mile, even some red in the color, still some body from the oats, a little haziness too, and just a short tan head on it, really doesnt look like a stout at all. there is a little more roast in the nose and flavor than it shows visually, but this remains really light on that aspect, kind of neat because i can taste and feel the contribution of the oats a little more, but this seems more build on chocolate malt than any roasted barley, and lacks that coffee and dark chocolate depth i look for in the best examples of the style. its light but not thin, simple but not boring, and it tastes pretty good, just to me this is more of an oatmeal brown ale. i guess the other factor to consider is that its high summer right now, they have some other darker beers in their lineup, and this may well be intentionally light for the hotter weather, which would be smart. its not terribly well refined, and its a league below their impressive wit, but its unique in the style i suppose and i like how obvious the oats are.
