It's hard to get information on these limited edition brews, but it tastes more like a Porter than a Stout to me. But it's an Imperial, all right. Hops are flavorful and aromatic, but less bitter than the usual RIS style.
Pours a dark brown brew with a beige head in the Blanche de Chambly goblet. Sprightly and tangy in the mouth. Plenty of suds even several days after opening the swing-top jug. Lots of roasted flavors, even a distinct hint of coffee. Fragrant with grain and flowery hops. There is just the right touch of bitterness with the rather sweet malt. It's way less sweet than many of these big dark ales, but the malt is mouth-filling. There is a spicy character that is really compelling.
This is one of the best "imperial" brews ever, in my experience, and another winner from my favorite Washington brewery. I hope they'll brew more and bottle this one for the holiday season. From the quart plus 2 fl oz growler filled at the brewery south of downtown Seattle.
