On tap at the brewery in Seattle. Amber brown color with ampler foam in the half-pint. Some beery aroma but just a whiff of resiny hops.

Woody and rather sweet. Burnt leaf mold and cedar bark. The aftertaste is just so endlessly bitter. Dank and dirty. Absolutely medicinal. Beyone grapefruit pith and into the aspirin zone. This is an unpleasant surprise from one of my favorite breweries. Got to get the taste of this out of my mouth.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured clean dark amber color with a half inch of off-white head that had good retention and lacing.

The aroma had a good, solid base, without being sweetly smelling, and some nicely counter-balancing hoppiness. On the tongue, the story was the same, malts that were just a touch less than sweet and crisp hops that contrasted nicely and left a bit of a tingle on the finish.

The body was great, nicely full and smooth, with an evenness that's rarely seen. Drinkability was excellent, I suspect a growler would be gone before you knew it, so ya better grab two. Overall, another great brew from one of Washington's smaller breweries. Worth a trip to either the brewery tasting room or the Brave Horse Tavern (the only 2 places to get this brew) for a few.

Growler filled at Schooner Exact. Poured into a red plastic "keg cup" on August 13th, 2011.

A: The beer poured a dark amber color, very reminiscent of Coca Cola. Almost no head formed, but there were patches of white soapy bubbles on the surface of the beer.

S: A strong pine aroma initially greets, but is followed up by orange peel and dark caramel.

T: The flavors of Brave Horse are very similar to the aroma. Pine comes through at the beginning, but a strong toasted/burnt malt flavor seeps through with a hint of oily orange peel.

M: The beer has a medium body with a slightly oily mouth feel and mid level carbonation.

O: Not a CDA, but not really a straight IPA, either. This is a nice rotational beer from Schooner's stable. Recommended.

On tap at Schooner Exact. Poured into a standard pint glass (this review from notes taken 7/2/11 - took me that long to get to 20 reviews so I could add this).

A - Poured a dark amber orange with 1 finger of barely off-white small bubble head. Several carbonation streams present. Shines bright orange/gold when held up to the light.

S - Mild citrus hop nose, with a hint of pine and floral hop.

T - Clean flavor, heavy pine hop, with a piney and grainy finish. Also a hint of malt at the tail end of the flavor. Great balance and intensity.

M - Medium body and crisp. Moderate intensity carbonation tingles on the tongue.

D - Very nice IPA. Satisfying, refreshing, and crisp. Great for just about any occasion.
