Hold on to your saddle, our barleywine was created with a bronco buck. By using a big hop presence and a strong malt backbone and then aging it in old whiskey barrels you will see the balance of a great barley wine. This will age well for years and is to be enjoyed by only the serious Cowboy. Yee Haw!

This was $5 a bomber. I couldn't pass up buying a few of these.
Pours a muddy caramel color with a thin wispy ring of head.
Aroma of caramel apples, sour granny smiths, and figs. Very nice nose here!
The flavor profile starts out with leather, oak, vanilla, and a citric character, then a blast of water in the middle, followed by a good dose of oak, whiskey, caramel, sour apples, toffee, and tobacco. Pretty unique. I think I would have given it a higher score in this category if there was more substance in the middle, but the finish is nice and soft and leaves a great impression on the tongue.
Feel is both heavily carbonated and slightly oily.
Overall, it's surprising this beer is barrel-aged, and I think if it hadn't been there would be a lot less character. It's a bit on the watery side, and though oak and vanilla are there, the whiskey character is kind of hard to find. I've definitely had better. A touch cidery. For best results serve at room temp.

Pours a deep amber with moderate haziness. 1+ finger light tan head dissipates slowish and leaves a moderate amount of lacing behind. Lacing is very fine and doesn't last. Thin layer of foam lingers.
Whiskey and caramel aroma. Oak, vanilla, and brown sugar. Hops are mild to start but grow as the beer warms. Some pine and earth. Mild citrus in the form of lemon and grapefruit.
Smooth whiskey flavor to start. Gets a bit sharper as it warms. Big barrel notes next. Oak, vanilla, lightly toasted malt. Brown sugar, light molasses, and candied sugar. Like the aroma, barrel and malt first, hops second. Earthy and a bit peppery. Citrus at the very end.
Medium body with medium carbonation. Sweet and sticky. A bit oily. Despite being secondary to the malt and barrel notes, the hops really linger at the end.
A really excellent barrel aged barleywine from an unexpected source in Crown Valley. Hops aren't quite as strong as I'd expect for an American Barleywine but are stronger than I'd expect for an English one. Very balanced with good complexity.
