not sure this one is retired as listed here, but it probably should be. just kidding, thats a little harsher than i should be on this pedestrian at best amber ale. it tastes overly sweet, thin, and metallic a bit to me, almost adjuncty, which is a lousy overall mix of superlatives for a pretty basic and easy enough to execute style of beer. it has at first a fine kilned malt red richness, toasty and nutty and earthy a little, but its all way too sugary. subtle dried fruits to this, an herbal black tea quality, but thats giving it too much credit for being complex. i taste an almost apple cidery sweetness to this, sort of autumnal and not at all unpleasant, but then this slightly oxidized minerality comes in, tangy for a second, highly metallic, and not quite stale tasting, but weird enough to be a turn off. sweetness lingers in the end, all of this sort of becomes one dimensional, as much as it sounds like is there. fluffy feeling which i like, but the metal end of it makes it seem cheap to me. this has potential, but its not quite there.

Served in a Walter Payton shaker pint glass.

Hopefully not too antique... It pours a clear bronze-copper topped by a finger of short-lived off-white foam. The nose comprises cracked wheat, light caramel, and honey-dripped biscuits. The taste holds notes of musty wheat, stale biscuits, caramel, and dust. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fairly dry finish. Overall, a pretty sad amber in pretty much every way. Not a fan of this be I (yargh).

Drinking as I'm typing....
Color is in between light amber and golden.
Smells malty... head is less than one finger, but present and continuous. Carbonation.... medium to high.
Has some bitter hoppy flavor, but the malt is also present, and the after taste is bitter and lingers for sometime in my mouth.
Has Pilsner type qualities, but not my choice of hop flavor.
Nothing special here...
Good if it's the only beer in my fridge... and I bet it would taste way better on draft.
At $7.99 a sixer, probably will not pick this up again.

A: Golden brown, small amount of head when poured into a glass.

S: Lacking in smell. The hops are there but not too terribly much to be gained from the smell alone.

Taste: First taste you get the hops, lemon, and a smoky flavor

Mouthfeel: Bitter at first edging into tasteless

A good beer but not phenomenal, could improve the taste (make it more durable).

Bought a 6-pack of this @ Casey's General Store in St. Genevieve, MO for $7.99. Put 5 in a cooler for Memorial Day and kept one to review. Poured from the 12oz bottle into Tulip Glass. Has no B.O.D. but does say to "Serve Cold" on the side!

Aroma- High maltiness and a strong honey aroma. No real hop or red aromas like normal but I like the aroma.

Appearance- Pours a light copper body that is slightly hazy. A 1 finger head is present but doesn't stay long. Small, sudsy lacing.

Flavor- Light hops but still pass off an amber flavor. Malty, sweet, and has a caramel finish. Good overall! Not much bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Light-Medium bodied, Medium Carbonation, and sweet malty finish on the palate. Nothing like it should be...

Overall Impression- I have been enjoying American Amber Ales lately and this definitely misses the mark in almost all categories... I realize this says Amber Lager on the front, but I rated it by the style of Amber/Red. All the brews from Crown Valley are above average, but didn't care for this one. Needed more body, hop, and overall mouthfeel.

My neighbor was kind enough to set me up with my second beer of the evening. Not only that, I got a free dinner too! His better half made a taco like lasagna...IT WAS AWESOME!!!! Chello!! Anyway this beer was ok....nothing out of the ordinary. It was more yellow/copper than red/amber...so that thru me right away. The white head did not lace all that great. The taste was solid but nothing awesome. Could I session??? Certainly...rewal question is would I want to?!?!?!?
