Drawing on memories of sunny afternoons spent in the beer gardens of Munich drinking steins of the local full flavoured pale lagers we saw the parallel with what we were trying to achieve and what the Bavarian brewers had mastered. We were inspired by their uncompromising approach to brewing and how they had managed to create a beer to fulfill both the thirsts and flavour expectations of the beer loving locals.

I tried this at the Pink Moon Saloon in Adelaide. I didn't have time to write notes. What I remember was that it was ok....kind of bland. Poured a pale yellow with thin white head that didn't lace.

Format: perfectly fine for a boutique beer, green bottle is nice.

Appearance: pours a light yellow in colour with limited visible carbonation. A filuffy head jumps to two fingers before quickly fizzing away to virtually nothing. Looks okay.

Aroma: there is definite citrus with some sweet malts. Not much more to say.

Taste: the citrus is still there, with a touch of grass hops bitterness and those malts. Not bad.

Aftertaste: there is an aftertaste of cheap-ish grain, which is not what was expected.

Mouth feel: quite light in feel, with moderate carbonation. Perhaps more carbonation would help? It feels a bit weak in body.

Overall: an alright beer from Stone & Wood, but I would have expected better from them. It is far too expensive at AU$70 a case of 24 x 330mL - there are better beers for less.

A very light style beer. Easy drinking and would be refreshing on a hot day and easy to knock back a few however the flavour leaves me wanting more. Not much hop aroma and flavour a little indiscreet. Compared to their other popular beer which I enjoy this was a somewhat disappointing purchase for a craft beer...

A - Pours a pale yellow colour with white frothy head that dissipates quickly

S - Slight floral aromas but a little metallic and grainy. Pretty ordinary.

T - Grainy, slightly sweet malt with citrus lemonade like finish , more like a shandy

M - Light bodied and medium carbonation

O - Pretty bland non interesting beer. Would be ok for the ladies on a hot summers day but thats about it.

A: Pours a pale yellow color with a fizzy head that fades to bits of lacing.

S: Aroma is a bit musty with some malt sweetness and some grain.

T: Taste of malt sweetness and some fruit in the background. Mild bitterness with a fairly clean finish.

F: Light body, quite smooth and pretty bland.

O: Reminds me of a typical non-offensive Euro Lager.

Pours a 100% clear straw colour. Dense white head looks good but doess not stay.

Aromas of doughy bready malts. Not much going on.

Taste in to straight into Helles territory - bread, sweet malts. Little hops. Difficult for me to be objective as I thought Euro/Aussie lager when purchased - not keen on Helles. Dough flavours dominate after short while.

Mouthfeel crisp but medium bodied.

Do I review to style? Endless question ... it's just dull. On palate and in profile.

A- Pale straw colour with a 2 finger white head that retains reasonably well. Furious carbonation. All in all, looks pretty cool.

S- Citrus and a slight metallic funk. Not a lot going on at all.

T- Well, not exactly what I was expecting to be honest. Malts are there, but the hops dominate. Unfortunately, there is a grainy aftertaste which is not too welcome bit otherwise, not bad.

M- Watery and carbonated. Carbonation sits nicely however and the thin body fits the style well. Can't complain too much, I guess.

O- As far as Australian macro-lagers go, you could do a lot worse than this. There is, thankfully, at least some taste to this and the drinkability is high. This is by no means a great beer, but compared to certain beers- Carlton cold- I'll have this any old day of the week.

Pours gold with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows big grassy and spicy hops with little else noticeable.
Some bready malt shows as a flavour, supported by the grassy hops. Falls flat quickly after that though.
Body feels quite watery, carbonation is too high.

Unobtrusive is the word that came to mind on sampling this.
Overall I thought it dull. The malts have a sweet cloying quality that takes any bite out of the palate. So this means it is not particularly sharp and refreshing.
It looks ok , albeit quite pale, and doesnt offend at all , but for me a lager needs to have an edge that can tolerate some chill , so that the mouth and mind are revitalised .
This just doesn't do it

Chilled bottle poured into a hexagonal pint glass.

Dullish amber body with a very slight showing of haze. Thin white head quickly dissolves rapidly thanks to a lively carbonated an effervescent body. Not much if any lace holds on.

Aroma immediately delivers up a blend of fresh hops and sticky malt flavor. Definite grain and fresh grassy aroma with citrus elements, that matches the status quo but doesn't push boundaries or breaks records.

Taste falls way short of the aroma in its complexity, which is fine when the taste is fresh and bold, but this is not. The taste is rather two dimensional and comes off like a poor version of a wit beer.

Stringy thin body with medium degree of carbonation. Dull start and an equally dull drying finish. It almost has the feel of a cold flat pale ale.

To be constructive though I would say that the nose is in the right direction but it all falls to pieces in the mouth. Would have been much better with a dominant malt or hops flavor with a fresher finish.

For such a flooded category this one from Stone & Wood just seems rushed and half arsed.
