Deep red with a thin, white head that falls off to a ring. The nose is dominated by caramelized rye, spicy, earthy , mildly bitter, light roasted coffee, a touch of sulfur. Solid.
The palate opens with some rye spiciness, a chalky, citrusy Cascade hop character, toasted rye bread and a little chocolate and coffee. Drying on the finish with earth, mild citrus and grainy astringency. Medium in body with an oily slickness from the rye, thus beer is light in body and moderately carbonated. Solid stuff.
