Purple Cosmos is a blend of saisons aged two years in oak, then finished with pinot noir and pinot meunier must from Schaad Cellars, combining a mature beer profile with bright, bracing fruit. The deeply colored brew is quite dry, tannic, and mineral-rich, complementing the oak character and yielding a lively and assertive beer.

Crowler from the source.

A mildly hazy dull purple, a little muddy looking, with a thin, pink head. The nose is spectacular. Coupled with the classic Upright funk, there's a fantastic and unique grape character. Skin tannins, blueberry skin , grape seed phenols and stem woody notes. The base saison has a really morphed, it's now got an aged, mildly leathery character. Mild lemon and lactic character. And out of left field comes a floral, bright, lemony character lending a good sangria note to the nose.

The palate opens tart and funky, a blend of clove, pepper, leather, wet, moldy hay and that fabulous grape expression. Minty, earthy, mildly blueberry like. Intense but not jammy, instead focusing on layers. Fruit, berries, mild fig, peach, citrus, earth, tannins, this is outstanding. Tart, mildly lemony, moderately lactic. Pronounced tannin character, complementing the fruit well. Fantastic structure on the palate, especially as it warms up, allowing the tannins to offset the thin and otherwise light body. Phenomenal.
