Visited the tasting room last Friday and saw this newbie on the chalkboard. Brewer says it's a fruited brew with lots of currants and warns me that it's pretty sour. Little does he know, I inject Mother Funker into my bloodstream every morning. Let's try a half pour!

Purple liquid gloops from the tap into my 5oz glass, filling it with an opaque, dark blue/red/purple liquid. Looks faintly grainy too. A whisper of white head forms a delicate ring on the surface. Can safely say I've never seen a beer that looks anything like this. Did I order a blueberry smoothie or a beer?

Lots of fruity depth in the nose as currants lead the charge. Plums and hints of clove play a supporting role. Smells more lactic than tart, and one taste confirms my suspicion. I immediately notice it's a nearly full-bodied beer as the black currants and dark fruits float smoothly over my taste buds. Very juicy & fruity, plenty of lacto with some acidity but definitely not as sour as advertised. Quite pleasant and refreshing.

What a unique, creative, and inspiring -- not to mention delicious -- brew. While I'm not particularly fond of Upright's saisons and "shelf" beers, Levinator affirms my love for Upright's fruit sours. I went back for two additional pours after quickly finishing my first glass. :)

The brewer said this is likely their next release in the Sole Comp series, and I'll definitely be trading for a couple bottles when the time comes.
