The beer pours out into a Duvel glass an almost black color with some dark red tones. The 1/2” head is a tan color and leaves no lacing as it recedes. Sipping creates a few legs and patches of lacing. By mid-way through the beer the ring and some lacing persist and the surface still has a complex thin pattern of foam.
The aromas include a light smokiness and a touch of dark roast from the malt. There’s a bit of dark fruits in the background and just a suggestion of burnt malt character.
The light flavors are much as expected from the nose with some dark roast from the malt and a bit of smokiness. But there’s also some dark caramel sweetness along with chocolate, some coffee and touches of fruitiness. The sweetness is balanced by some light bitterness.
The mouth feel is on the light side of medium bodied and creamy smooth with soft, gentle but persistent carbonation. The medium length finish begins as the sweetness fades allowing the coffee and chocolate to show a bit before following. At the end there is some dry bitterness from the hops but no sign of burnt character from the dark roasted malt.
This is a drinkable porter and one I’ll keep an eye open for to be able to revisit. The overall balance of aromas/flavors is just complex enough to be interesting but at the same time light, and pleasant enough that one can just sit back, relax and enjoy a tasty porter. While I’d not place it above or in the same class as some of the best porters I’ve tried it is well done.

On draft at Evolution. Light on the nose and mouthfeel, very little head. Slightly roasty, bready, smooth, and easy drinking. Overall a decent Porter.

Bottle from Giant. Kind of flat pour, dull and lifeless. Aroma is sweet, molasses, minor hints of roast grains. taste carries forward with the sweetness, with some earthy, dirty flavors, recalling a scotch ale. Definite peat flavors, root beer. Where is the porter? Not getting what they were trying for....

Body looks a bit thin; brown to copper color. First impression is big yeast flavor, followed by some roastyness and maybe a little caramel. That's as complex as it gets. Carbonation is good. There are better porters, but this is still an agreeable, drinkable beer.

Tastes notes of caramel and coffee. Light for a Porter. Pleasant carbonation. More hoppy than I'd expect. Pleasant finish and aftertaste. I would drink again but if there were other porters I might choose another, this isn't really a standout for me.

12oz bottle, wine glass, no freshness date.
It’s dark cola colored with a short lived light cream head.
Cardboard, instant coffee, cola.
Light cola flavor, slightly nutty, oxidized, weak coffee, metallic. All the right flavors, but muted and too oxidized.
Medium-light body, light carbonation, thin feeling.
It lacks the richness, flavor, and body of a good Porter. It also doesn’t help that it may be quite old, but who knows, there’s no bottling date!

Dark colored beer, tan head. Notes of chocolate and coffee. Slightly sweet malt. Sharp carbonation.
