they had this listed at 10.5% abv on the menu when we were in, i get some batch to batch variance, but thats a huge gap from what is listed here, they must have beefed this one up intentionally. brassy in color with a tall white head that approximated proper belgian beer pretty well. nice luster to this, good clarity, pretty pour. the nose is almost overly simple to me, some added sugar evident, and a run too warm sort of generic estery belgian yeast profile that ranges from dried apricot to green pear, aromatic white wine, skittles candy, lemongrass, and raw honey, pleasant but familiar to the point of it being kind of uninteresting, some black peppery and bitter herbal notes too, short of phenolic overall but not by much, a nice nutty toasted thing to the grain. the flavor is totally yeast driven too, sweet throughout and surprisingly not all that alcoholic for how strong it actually is. biscuit, honey, and golden raisin notes in the grain, cut flowers, preserved citrus, and a little potpourri thing to the yeast, bold but not so aggressive its a turnoff, and it seems to need the residual sugar this has. clover and orange, white pepper and coriander, this is pretty layered, but its seemingly all from the ferment. not interesting enough to stand out as amazing, but this is well made for what it is, a fully passable take on the style, and a neat one to find in here. a little more ambitious beer list this time than what i recall from my last visit, and im all about it! a couple of these i would have had to leave my car in mccall!
