Meadow Road Wheat Beer

4/13/22 Yellow, unfiltered with a billowing white, long lasting head. I get the clove but not the banana. Drinkable but if I want a Wheat Beer, I’ll go German Hefeweizen every time.

Clear with a gold color. Lasting moderate head with blankets of lasting lace on the glass.

Pleasant wheat malt aroma. A touch of clove is also present.

Fairly smooth body but with ample carbonation. There's a distinctly strong yeast bite which takes away from the true wheat flavor. There's a bitter bite in the swallow and the aftertaste is moderate in length.

 

Poured on-tap and served in a weisse vase, the beer is bright, hazy, with a solid yellow coloring and a tall, frothy, dense, bright white head. Mild aroma of roast wheat, lemon pepper, and a touch of clove. Flavors are light and sweet, with a lemon-honey backbone. Smooth and creamy, there is a slight roast and spice in the aftertaste. Creamy, clean finish. Not bad.

LOOK: Hazed straw yellow color, very agressive foaming leads to a very tall head

SMELL: Chalky clove, lemon pith, banana skin, dusty yeast, grassy, wheat crackers, mild tartness

TASTE: Grainy, faintly tart, mellow clove, nutty yeast, bready, green banana, mild esters, ghost-like butteriness, peppery, bone-dry finish

Not half bad, very rustic and a little wild but still pretty drinkable. Not as forward as other German Wheat beers but it still lands within the style.

Pours a pale straw color, with a huge white head, it fades at a slightly fast rate but there's such a huge head that it lasts for quite awhile and leaves a cap on top, lots of bubbles rise from the bottom throughout drinking the bomber. The last pour produces an insane amount of cloudy haze, even says right on the bottle to swirl the sediment and finish pouring it.

Smell has a good aroma of clove and banana, yeast is only slightly evident, light honey presence.

The taste mixes the clove and banana quite well, light sweet malt presence holds things together, the carbonation is a killer though, it is way too active and explodes once it hits my mouth (similar to how a cola is), has a weird grassy aftertaste that is ill-placed.

It had a lot of potential at first, but a few key things failed it in the flavor department, better carbonation control would be a good step forward for this beer.

So far, I've tried everything from Penobscot Bay and the only one I'd return to would be their Blonde Ale. Of course, they do make some great wines at Winterport.

The beer pours a cloudy pale gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a light and predominantly wheat based aroma along with a touch of citrus and a dry finish. I don't detect any traditional hefe esters. The banana/clove character just isn't there. The taste is much the same. It very light with a weak malt flavor. Again, it seems to be brewed with a much higher proportion of wheat malt than most hefes. It falls in line with a kristalweizen. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is an average hefe at best. It's unfiltered and definitely brewed with wheat, but that seems to be where the similarities end. Where's the hefe yeast character?

You know what's nice about a weizen glass? You can pour an entire bomber into it.
This beer was a hazy yellow/orange color with a clumpy white head.
Aroma was sweet, banana, and spice.
Banana taste was primary, some clove. I lost the sweetness in the aroma.
A refreshing beer. Great for sitting on your porch on a warm summer day.
