The first entry into Wachusett's 1794 limited edition series involved former Guiness brewmaster Fergal Murray. Murray visited Wachusett to collaborate on what they are billing as the first 'New England Stout'. Inspired by Wachusett's Wally IPA, the combination of Irish malts and American hop varietals result in a new interpretation of the style. 40 IBUs.

A rich and flavorful light stout. A lovely roasted malt flavor hits you first with dark chocolate on the nose, a hint of molasses on the finish. Easy drinking at this ABV but immensely more satisfying than most light stouts.

A solid and very drinkable stout. Both refreshing and easy drinking but yet plenty of roasted coffee/chocolate flavor. Not going to punch in the face, but a more Guinness like flavor (mild and drinkable). I really like it. I. Think it was about $6 a 4 pack of 16 oz

Picked a can of this up at Julio's.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice dark brown almost black with a very, very thin off-white/mocha head that fades to leave light, light wisps and a little halo.
S - Aromas of roasted malts, light biscuits, little bit of coffee and chocolate, light caramel. Little bit of bitterness.
T - Taste is similar to the nose. Nice roasted malts, a little bit of coffee (mostly bitter roast), some light chocolate and caramel. Finish is more lingering bitterness.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly lightly carbonated, body is a bit light which translates to a thinner mouthfeel.
O - Overall this was a rather unimpressive stout from Wachusett. It's an interesting collaborating, however, it doesn't translate to a decent beer. If it had a real nice body then this would probably be pretty decent but as it stands it's just thin and bland. Like some mediocre 'lite' stout for bicycle enthusiasts one would get from 3Cross. Super disappointing.

Canned 2/23/18
Pours a nice off-white foamy creamy rich 1 finger head that fades at a med to slower pace, nice lacing, jet black color
Nose roasted coffee out front, roasted malts, fresh coffee, creamy oat perhaps, little toasty, hint cocoa and dark chocolate, hint fudgey caramel
Taste brings roast, roasted malt and a bit of roasted coffee grinds, a little fresh coffee, more dark chocolate, a touch of creamy oat perhaps, hint of caramel and mild sweetness, some bitterness mostly roasted malt bitterness but touch of spicy hop, dry Irish stout malt character, dry mild sticky finish, spicy hops with a fair bitterness.
Mouth is med to a little lighter bod, a touch creamy, decent fizzy carbonation
Overall OK but nothing special, not sure why this was a New England Stout and what makes it special, it's basically a boring kinda plain slight bitter stout.

Poured from a can dated 2/28/18 into the pint glass
A - Bakers chocolate color, gently carbonated with a this off white cap
S - Toasted malt, a hint of cocoa, mint, burnt brown sugar. Excellent
T - Cocoa powder, bit of cigar tobacco, nice earthy hop element
M - Dry start, medium in body, carbonation is wonderful, dry finish
O - What a delight this offering is, dry stout with enough bitterness, the brewers exercised great finesse with this one.

From the 16 oz. can dated 2/23/2018. Sampled on March 11, 2018.
Deep dark brown to near black pour with a silky tan colored head up top.
Pleasant aroma of sweet and dark roasted and biscuit malts, char, and a little citrus zestiness.
The body was light and a little thinner than I might have preferred.
The taste is moderately bold and roasty, sweet, mildly burnt, with a cleansing fruity or citrus like dry bitter finish.
