Named for the owner's miniature Australian shepherd, Mad Max is, or was, an ESB. By the time I tried it at SKW's Sea Towne Pub, it had suffered such a protracted infection as to taste like more of a Flanders Red than an ESB. Actually, as a sour red ale, it wasn't bad. But as an ESB Mad Max was fatally flawed. It was tart and cidery with no lather and bore so little resemblance to an English bitter, it can't properly be though of as such. Pass.
