The second beer of my birthday visit to BDT. Bourbon Barrel Aged Double IPA on cask? Geek out! From notes.
A - Poured light copper and cloudy with a two finger creamy beige head. Good lace rings and a half finger of retention.
S - Tons of hops. Wood, alcohol was strong, mint, leather. Bourbon was heavy. Spirits, vanilla. The aroma was very complex and interesting.
T - Obvious alcohol in the flavour. Hops, woody bourbon, dank hops. More alcohol than I would say is typically wanted in the style. Sugar, citrus.
M - Very smooth on cask. Very mild carbonation, nice bitterness.
O/D - A fairly interesting take on the style. The original is quite good, and the barrel aging adds lot's of extra elements. Not better than the base beer, but on cask it was a pleasant experience. Creativity points for sure. Alcohol held it back, otherwise pretty good.

Tap: Poured a hazy orange/amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention. Aroma consists of powerful hops are very well balanced by some string bourbon notes with vanilla coming out quite aggressively. Taste is a great mix between citrus hops which are balanced by some residual sugar which are enhanced by the bourbon and vanilla flavour. Body is quite full with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. This is tasting more like a big US-style barleywine that has been barrel-aged. Not a big fan of IPA that have been barrel-aged but this is the exception.
