500 ml bottle purchased as part of a 4 pack "Historic Beers of the Decade" for under $16 CDN. Served well chilled into glassware.
Appearance - Seriously dark brown nearly black in color. Small 1/2 finger of off white head was poured and doesn't stick around but this beer is super dark.Little bit of lacing sticks to the edges of the glass.
Smell - Lots of roasted oats and coffee aromas. Also a small amount of molasses blended in. Nothing out of the ordinary for the style, but enticing enough.
Taste - Taste starts a bit watery then there is coffee flavors, with a bit of leather. Also some roasted nuts and less bitter than expected finish and aftertaste
Mouthfeel - Smooth, rather low on the carbonation side and and oily feel that clings to the mouth after the fact. Works well in this case with the flavor profiles. Despite being oily in the mouth, this beer has a dry finish.
Overall - Surprisingly thirst quenching, A tasty stout that is sessionable and combines some of the usual suspects in a stout (roasted nuts, coffee) into something pretty good. By no means a world-beater, this is still well-crafted and approachable.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, contained within their 'Historic Beers of Canada' sampler; best before May 2014. Glad to see Black Creek is still chugging along with this series of beers, even if the last entrant was kind of forgettable. Served slightly chilled.
Pours pitch black, topped with about one finger's worth of frothy, light beige-coloured head that recedes over the next five minutes or so. At the end of this process, a soapy cap and creamy collar are left behind, with a modest quantity of lacing. Looks fine, and the aroma is similarly agreeable - roasted malts, coffee beans and mocha are the major players, with additional hints of dark fruit. Straightforward, but enticing enough for me.
This is a decent stout, but it's not a very interesting one. Roasted barley and wheat malts are front-and-centre stage here, with additional notes of fruity plum acidity. A slight roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavour emerges toward the finish, with lightly toasted malts and cocoa hanging on briefly into the aftertaste. On the lighter side of medium-bodied, with the wheaty malts providing some additional body to what would otherwise be a pretty watery brew. Perfect carbonation; light and prickly. Very sessionable, as all of this brewery's ales are intended.
Final Grade: 3.63, a B. Initially, Riel's Dream sounded like a fairly interesting concept - a wheat stout brewed entirely with Canadian-grown ingredients - but the reality is that this is a passable, unmemorable beer. I had no problem downing this bottle and would be up for another when the singles roll out, but it's not something I'll be actively seeking out again. A passable session stout; worth a look I suppose.

REally had to work the pour to try and get anything by way of a head on this one. Ended up with a 2mm cap that immediately dissipated to a thing ring that gave up just wee spots of lace. Coffee black in colour.
Only the merest whiff of anything stoutish at all. Same flavour-wise. Nicely carbonated though, a nice bit of sparkle in something that is otherwise rather watery.
Easy to drink, but not at all memorable. Just the barest of everything happening here, but with some weird appeal somehow. Stout light.
